Appendix 6:
Letter to the Commissioner from the Deputy
Serjeant at Arms
Earlier this year Mr Clive Betts MP made an application
for a House of Commons' pass for a Mr Jose Gasparo as a member
of his staff. Although the issue of the pass was never taken up,
it would have been granted as enquiries in connection with the
pass did not reveal anything which would have provided grounds
for a refusal.
I have subsequently been informed that there is evidence
that Mr Gasparo had been active as a male escort and that, indeed,
his services had been advertised. Had I been aware of this fact,
I would not have granted him a pass as I would have considered
such activities to be a potential security risk. I would have
taken the same point of view had Mr Betts' potential member of
staff been female with a recent history of escort service.
