Select Committee on Culture, Media and Sport First Special Report

First Special Report

Privacy and media intrusion

1. The Committee published its Fifth Report of Session 2002-03 on 16 July 2003.[1] The Government published its response in October.[2] In January 2004 we received responses from the Press Complaints Commission (PCC)[3] and the Press Standards Board of Finance (PressBoF). These replies are published as Appendices I and 2 to this Special Report. For ease of reference the text of the Government's reply is also included (see Appendix 3).

2. As suggested in our original Report, we intend to return to these matters in due course: after Ofcom has completed its relevant reviews and once reforms undertaken by the PCC have had time to take effect.
