Select Committee on Regulatory Reform Second Report

Appendix J

Letter from the Patent Office to the Clerk of the Committee

Proposal for the Regulatory Reform (Patents) Order 2004: answers to further questions from the Committee

Thank you for your letter of 14th. January 2004, which contained a number of further questions posed by the House of Commons Regulatory Reform Committee. Thank you also for the enclosures.

Please find attached our answers in the form of a table.[137]

The draft proposals for reform of the national security provisions have been reconsidered in the light of the responses which were forwarded with your letter, and the Committee's questions have been answered in the light of revisions we are now proposing to make. It is regretted that the opinions on which these revisions are founded were not available to us at a time when they could have influenced the form of the draft proposed order as laid before Parliament.

I also include a further table which cross-correlates those parts of the Patents Bill which now rely on the proposed Regulatory Reform (Patents) Order.[138]

Please do not hesitate to contact me should the Committee require any further information.
