Supplementary memorandum submitted by
the Association of Transport Co-ordinating Officers (ATCO)
Some additional points we would wish to have
incorporated into our evidence
1. Please replace the first sentence of
pargraph 19 of the ATCO written evidence with
"The aim of obtaining best value from the
£2 billion of public sector funding annually put into all
forms of road based passenger transport including school transport,
local bus services and concessionary bus travel can best be achieved
by setting flexible and meaningful local targets that reflect
each LA's circumstances"
2. The requirement to register school services
as a local bus service under the Transport Act 1985 should be
retained for all services on which school children pay seperate
fares to the bus operator and should only not be required on closed
school contract buses where the LA has full control on who travels
and allows only a small number of non entitled children to pay
a charge for a spare seat.
3. Q116. Typical daily contract prices for
school buses (50 seats) in the rural shires are likely to range
from £120-190 with the average around £150 ie considerably
higher than the figures quoted by Metro.
