Select Committee on Education and Skills Minutes of Evidence

Supplementary memorandum submitted by John Sykes, Principal Engineer (Transport Policy), Hertfordshire County Council (ST 32b)

Not an easy question to answer as the schemes often combine revenue and capital funding sources at varying scales depending on each individual school. However, as a rule of thumb an "average" rural primary "safer routes to school" programme can vary from £15-£30,000 (from which up to 20% could be revenue funding). For an urban primary this can increase to between £30-£80,000 (again this figure includes a maximum of 20% revenue). A typical secondary school costs between £50-£150,000 (including revenue costs around 25%). Finally, the current team of advisers are funded through a bursary grant of £161,000 for each of the next two financial years.
