Select Committee on Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Written Evidence

Memorandum submitted by The National Hop Association

IMPLEMENTATION OF CAP REFORM IN THE UK

The National Hop Association is in favour of the total decoupling of the production aid given to hop growers as recommended in the Commission report to the Council on evolution of the hop sector.

However, if the payment system were to be regionalized, hop growers would be unduly penalized as production aid is at a higher rate than AAPS. The reduction, therefore, would be much higher than for the arable sector.

This reduction in Aid would be disastrous for hop growers individually and for the whole industry.
