Select Committee on Foreign Affairs Fourth Report

Conclusion

170. Bill Rammell raised concerns about the burden that the Annual report places on FCO staff in the evidence session, saying that "there is an issue about the length of the report and the amount of work that goes into compiling it."[228] However, the Annual Report on Human Rights 2003 is a comprehensive and thorough document, and its length and breadth are necessary because of the scope of human rights issues throughout the world and the use posts could make of the Report. The very task of compilation surely focuses the attentions of the FCO on their obligations in this field.

171. We commend the FCO for its work producing such a thorough report and recommend that the Government continue publishing an Annual Report on Human Rights to the highest possible standards.
