Select Committee on Health Minutes of Evidence

Letter from the Chief Executive, Marie Curie Cancer Care, to the Chairman of the Committee (PC 35A)

During the second evidence session of the Committee's inquiry into palliative care (which I thoroughly enjoyed!), I agreed to send you further information on a couple of the issues raised.

The Committee requested details of the regulators which impinge on Marie Curie Cancer Care's work. I have attached a list of these for the whole of the UK at Annex A.

Secondly, following my example of the post code lottery of access in Yorkshire I promised to forward further details of our nursing service provision by PCTs for the last year. I have attached the latest figures for 2003-04 at Annex B. I should highlight the fact that these statistics have not yet been finally audited and therefore may change slightly. The figures highlight the current problem of inequality of access to our services across England and the UK and I have drawn out a couple of example to demonstrate this.

Do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any further assistance.
