STUDIES
1. The Shooting Star Trust, London
Awarded amount: £250,000
Progress to date: The grant was awarded in November
2002 and payments commenced in early 2003. The project is now
fully underway.
Grant scheme description:
The Shooting Star Trust is aiming to develop
the first Children's Hospice in West London, to serve over 1,000
children suffering from life-limiting conditions in this area.
The Hospice will provide comprehensive care and support children
and their families through services including nursing care, practical
help, advice and information, aimed at the whole family throughout
the child's illness and afterwards.
2. Marie Curie Cancer Care, Bradford
Awarded amount: £827,000
Progress to date: Grant was awarded in September
1999. Building works were completed in July 2001, and centre was
officially opened in September 2001. The centre is now fully equipped,
staff and volunteers have been recruited.
Grant scheme description: This project will
develop a specialist palliative care centre in Bradford's inner
city. It will provide 16 in-patient beds, out patients clinic,
day care services and home care support. A one year capital grant
will pay for the extended user and relative facilities in the
new building.
3. The Donna Louise Trust, West Midlands
Awarded amount: £160,868
Progress to date: Grant awarded in March 2003
and payments commenced in May 2003. The project is now fully underway.
Grant scheme description: A project to establish
a team of Family Support Workers at a newly built respite hospice
for children with life limiting illnesses. The team will provide
support, advice and activities for the children and their families
who are in need of respite care. The grant, over three years,
will fully fund the salaries of four full-time Hospice Family
Support Workers, recruitment costs and training for staff and
volunteers.
