Select Committee on Office of the Deputy Prime Minister: Housing, Planning, Local Government and the Regions Minutes of Evidence

Examination of Witnesses (Questions 400-401)

18 SEPTEMBER 2003

COUNCILLOR ANGIE ROBINSON AND MS HILARY MARTIN

Q400  Chairman: Has the Council taken positive initiatives to make sure that people who get a postal vote or proxy are not abusing the system?

Cllr Robinson: Our postal vote system is the one where there is a return slip in a separate envelope. I am not entirely certain what the elections office have done in relation to this.

Q401  Chairman: Perhaps you would let us have a note on this?—see attachment 2.

Cllr Robinson: I think they watch the procedure closely.

Chairman: Can I thank you very much for your evidence, it has been very useful indeed. That is the end of the Committee's proceedings today.
