Select Committee on Office of the Deputy Prime Minister: Housing, Planning, Local Government and the Regions Written Evidence

Supplementary memorandum by the London Borough of Camden (DEC 65(a))

I would like to thank the Select Committee for raising at your recent meeting a number of important points with Keith Hill that relate to Camden's recent ALMO vote and the wider implications of what impact a tenant "no" vote may have on the Government's ability to achieve its Decent Homes targets.

I realise that the Select Committee report will have a very broad remit, but I hope that the Camden evidence was useful and may inform the final report.

I would like to take this opportunity to respond to some of the comments that were made by Keith Hill to questions made by the Committee with the intention of clarifying a number of issues he raised. Not surprisingly, we do not agree with a number of the assertions he made. We do however agree with the Minister that there were very specific factors in Camden that led to the overwhelming "no" vote. For ease of reference, we have responded to individual questions and comments as they were raised in the attached paper.

Cllr Dame Jane Roberts

Leader of the Council
