Select Committee on Public Administration Written Evidence

Memorandum by Professor William D Rubinstein (HON 16)

I strongly dissent from the proposed abolition of knighthoods as described in today's "Daily Telegraph" as one of the proposals of your Committee. Your Committee is almost certainly dominated by otherwise unemployed left-wing Labourites, and reflects an extreme left-wing view of society. There has been no popular call to do away with knighthoods. Your Committee has simply decided to make mischief on this issue; it is reasonable to say in order to satisfy the left-wing ideological preconceptions of its majority. Knighthoods have been a part of British society for centuries. They should be left alone. Your Committee is wasting the taxpayers' money.
