Select Committee on Public Administration Written Evidence

Memorandum submitted by Mr Jim Hamilton (HON 27)

An honours system is in place to respect the achievement of individuals who have excelled in life over and above the standard required by the job for which they are paid or have by their action brought honour to this country and its people. The present system does this very well and the various levels of the awards can recognise the individual nuances of the performance. To introduce some stupid "Comrade 1st/2nd/3rd class" or even worse "Stankanovite worker of the year" scheme simply brings derision to the system. Keep with what is working and is understood.
