Annex 2

CROSSREF (WWW.CROSSREF.ORG)

CrossRef was established in 2000 as an independent, non-profit membership association, with a mandate to make cross-publisher linking throughout online scholarly literature efficient and reliable. CrossRef harnesses collaboration among publishers to provide the scholarly community with easier access to online research content. CrossRef currently spans 252 publishers with 9.3 million content items registered in the CrossRef system. The number of DOI resolutions per month—instances of scholars and researchers clicking on links—reached three million in April 2003, triple the figure from a year earlier. A large number of global organisations associated with scholarly communication are also members or affiliates of CrossRef, including over 100 libraries.
