COUNTER: COUNTING
ONLINE USAGE
OF NETWORKED
ELECTRONIC RESOURCES
(WWW.PROJECTCOUNTER.ORG/ABOUT.HTML)
COUNTER is a strongly supported international
initiative that serves librarians, publishers and intermediaries
by facilitating the recording and exchange of online usage statistics.
COUNTER released a Code of Practice in January 2003 that specifies
the content, format and delivery mechanisms to which vendor- generated
online usage reports must conform in order to achieve `COUNTER
compliant' status. COUNTER has its origins in a working party
formed by the JISC/PA/ALPSP "PALS" (Publishers and Library/Learning
Solutions) collaboration, and includes a wide range of national
and international publisher and library associations among its
founding sponsors.
