500   Workplaces data available only for 2002; inspection percentages for other years based on that figure. In table 1 data relating to sole traders has been excluded. Table 2 includes sole traders - see note (iii) below. Sources: Annual Business Index (ABI) - for Great Britain; Agricultural holdings (DEFRA) - for United Kingdom; and Sole proprietorships (DTI) - for United Kingdom. Further note that (i) the allocation of FOD enforcing activity is an estimate at SIC Division level: as such it does not take into account demarcation arrangements in place between FOD and other HSE enforcing authorities; (ii) the DEFRA estimate for registered agricultural holdings for the United Kingdom has been used, as the ABI dataset (which is derived from the Inter-Departmental Business Register (IDBR) excludes farm based agricultural data contained in SIC92 class 0100; (iii) DTI estimate for the United Kingdom has been used, as the ABI dataset cannot identify sole traders: these are identified under the category "With no employees", which comprises sole proprietorships, partnerships comprising only the self-employed, owner-manager(s), and companies comprising only an employee director. Back
