Memorandum submitted by Mr Stephen Sondheim
I write this letter to support very strongly
the Bridewell Theatre, which is the only venue in London devoted
to the professional musical theatre. It not only provides a second
life for little-known and underrated musicals, it also encourages
new work. It has produced a number of my lesser-known pieces,
and done them proud. If theatrical enterprises in London are to
be supported (and they should be), the Bridewell ought to be near
the top of the list.
