Select Committee on Defence Written Evidence

SECTION 2

The position of WRVS Services Welfare within the welfare system of the Armed Forces

WRVS Services Welfare is a primary welfare agency. Whilst retaining civilian status, WRVS is committed to supporting the CO by offering an impartial view on any welfare issues that would require the attention of the CO or the welfare team.

Although Services Welfare is a uniformed service; this is worn to assist the recruit in identifying the SWO. There are two types of uniform currently used, one formal for pass out parades etc. and one casual for daily wear in clubs.

We have identified that our services are sought by considerably more RAF Phase Two female recruits in tri service locations, than their counterparts in the Army. An explanation for this could be that during their Phase One training WRVS SWOs do not exist and the recruits appear to appreciate the support available to them in these Phase Two locations.
