Select Committee on Defence Written Evidence

Vetting procedures for civilians who are employed to instruct recruits and trainees

Civilians working on military sites are vetted in accordance with the employment that they are given. The lowest level of clearance is a "Basic Check" which simply establishes that the individual is who he or she says he or see is and is entitled to be employed (ie is not an illegal immigrant).

Civilians who are in close regular contact with recruits and trainees are screened by the completion of an MoD form 1109 which is passed to the Defence Vetting Agency (DVA) in York. The DVA will conduct a check with the Police National Computer, a Credit Check and a Check with the security services to ensure that the individual is suitable for employment.
