Figures on the use of Confidential Support Line

The Confidential Support Line (CSL) aims to provide a reliable, supportive listening service to military personnel and their families. In April 2003, the service expanded to include the Royal Navy, Royal Marines and their families. In July 2003, an email service was added to the provision of the service and also a "specialised" relationship line manned by qualified and experienced relationship counsellors.

In 2003, the CSL received 4,072 contacts. Together with other, non-military helplines throughout the UK, the CSL received a large number of hoax calls (681). This became a national police matter and it was finally effectively dealt with by the end of August 2003. The CSL received 3,391 genuine contacts, including 47 emails. This figure is more than double that of previous years.
