Recruit punishment guidance

ARMY

This information is contained in the ATRA Handbook and was last amended in January 2005 to coincide with the introduction of the new AGAI 67. A copy of this document is attached.[15]

NAVY

Guidance on Remedial Training—sanctions against trainees for minor misdemeanours—at Raleigh (Phase 1) and the MWS (Phase 2) is attached.

RAF

Queens Regulations 998 state that any RAF Officer, Warrant Officer or NCO with the duty of educating and training is to endeavour to inculcate such a sense of honour, responsibility and esprit de corps as will cause misbehaviour to be regarded as a breach of trust and a disgrace to the culprit's squadron and school. Discipline is to be taught and maintained on its true basis and not on fear of punishment.

Commanding Officers have authority to award punishment for minor offences which can include restrictions for a period not normally exceeding seven days or up to three extra guards or pickets. More serious offences are dealt with under normal procedures as laid out in Air Force regulations.
