Select Committee on Defence Written Evidence

The possibility of a UK Military Ombudsman

The Independent Review of the Armed Forces Manpower, Career and Remuneration Structures (the Bett Report) recommended extending the terms of reference of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration to permit him to deal with complaints by servicement about administrative matters. The recommendation was not accepted mainly on the grounds that the Services already have procedures for dealing with the redress of complaints. This remains the position. Further improvements to the complaints system are under consideration as part of the work under the Armed Forces Bill, as discussed recently in evidence before the Committee (HC 64).
