Select Committee on Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Written Evidence

Memorandum submitted by the Countryside Council for Wales

The Countryside Council for Wales is the statutory adviser to government on sustaining natural beauty, wildlife and the opportunity for outdoor enjoyment throughout Wales and its inshore waters. As the Animal Welfare Bill is `welfare' based, CCW do not have any comments to make from a statutory protection point of view.

However, we do welcome changes made in the Bill to enable greater policing powers for search, arrest etc. This is particularly relevant under Section 2, where these increased powers could make investigations into badger baiting offences easier.
