Select Committee on Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Written Evidence

Memorandum submitted by Brenda Hayman

  1.  I object to local councils having authority to licence breeding-establishments, pet-shops, boarding-kennels. Previously some council employees have had vested interests in such businesses and have ignored reports of cruelty at these places.

  2.  The sale of animals on open markets or at auctions should be banned. Animals purchased here have been used to train hunting-dogs and used as live food for snakes.
