Select Committee on Foreign Affairs Written Evidence

Letter to Mr Barry Lennox from the Clerk of the Committee, 13 July 2004

Donald Anderson has asked me to thank you for your letter of 5 July, and for taking the trouble to read his contribution to the recent debate on Zimbabwe.

You are correct in the understanding expressed in your final paragraph, that an individual should normally pursue a case through his constituency Member. However, I am sure that the Committee will be interested in the concerns you state in your letter, which presumably affect a class of people. Would you be good enough to forward to me a copy of the FCO letter of 21 May referred to in your letter? I would also welcome being informed of any group which represents the interests of former public servants of Rhodesia/Zimbabwe who are resident in the United Kingdom, in order that I might contact them.

Given the rapidly approaching Parliamentary recess, I would much appreciate a swift response.

Steve Priestley

Clerk of the Committee

13 July 2004
