Select Committee on Foreign Affairs Written Evidence

Letter to the Parliamentary Relations and Devolution Department, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, from the Clerk of the Committee, 16 September 2004

Thank you for your letter of 7 September, about the April 2000 arrangements relating to Gibraltar authorities.

The Committee has asked me to request a more detailed explanation of the exchanges summarised in the third paragraph of your letter and of the reasons given to the British Government by the Governments of Spain and Gibraltar for their refusal to accept application of the arrangements in this case.

The Committee is similarly interested in learning exactly how each of the other dossiers listed in your letter is, or promises to be, affected.

We are also asking the Government of Gibraltar to send us their observations.

A response by the end of October would be particularly helpful.

Steve Priestley

Clerk of the Committee
