Select Committee on Foreign Affairs Written Evidence

Letter to the Chief Minister, Government of Gibraltar, from the Chairman of the Committee, 21 December 2004

Thank you for your letter of 17 December, bringing me up to date on the latest tripartite talks initiative.

As you have recognised, the Foreign Affairs Committee has long taken a close interest in efforts to improve relations between Gibraltar and Spain, and in achieving a solution to a number of problems which Gibraltar has faced. I am pleased to see that you not only welcome the new talks, but express a degree of optimism about the resolution of some of these problems. I am sure that my colleagues would wish to be kept informed of the progress of the talks and of any specific issues which arise, not only by the FCO but also by yourself.

Please accept my and the Committee's best wishes for further progress on resolving the outstanding issues and for the success of the talks process generally.

Rt Hon Donald Anderson MP

Chairman of the Committee

21 December 2004
