7. Memorandum submitted by Ken Livingstone,
Mayor of London
I would like to add my support to the Swaminarayan
Hindu Temple in Neasden. The allegation, that the Temple is linked
to terrorism, as presented to the House of Commons Home Affairs
Committee on 16 November 2004, is completely without foundation.
My office has checked with the Metropolitan
Police Service to ascertain whether there was any evidence to
the very serious allegation. The police clearly stated that such
an allegation is without foundation.
I am dismayed that such an allegation has been
made in the House, which has naturally caused distress to the
Temple and the wider Hindu community in London.
I will continue to support the Temple as the
largest centre of the Hindu community in London.
The Hindu community is a peaceful law abiding
community, which has a track record that needs commending and
supporting. I would like to make it clear to all Londoners the
Temple and the Hindu community of London has my continued support.
