Select Committee on Home Affairs Written Evidence

10. Memorandum submitted by Ramgarhia Sabha

Letter to the General Secretary, Shri Swaminarayan Mandir (BAPS)

I understand that a serious allegation has been made against the Shri Swaminarayan Mandir that "it is involved in a terrorist activities".

Over the years the Shri Swaminarayan Mission has been one of the most progressive charities in UK. They have brought richness to our multi-cultural society and have been a fantastic example the way you have motivated the young and and old within the Hindu community. Your organisation has also worked in unison with other communities to build good community relations particularly in London.

In addition, whenever there have been major disasters in the world you have been one of the first charities to come to the aid of the unfortunate ones. This was particularly the case when earthquake struck in Gujarat in India, in fact you were the only charity that was able distribute aid to the people of Gujarat in first crucial days and weeks of the disaster.

This allegation is both absurd and ludicrous and in no way should be tolerated by the community at large. We hope that this will not distract you from your mission to serve the Humanity and that you will continue to be a shining example for many years to come.
