Select Committee on Modernisation of the House of Commons Written Evidence

Submission from Derek Wyatt MP

Thank you for your letter of 8 January 2004.

Of the four options on offer, I would want the House to continue to modernise—ie third option. I believe that we should sit 9.30 am-5.30 pm Monday to Thursday. I think Question Time should be consistent and revert to 2.30 pm-3.30 pm Monday to Thursday. I would suggest that Select Committees should be given timetabled positions (so in The Whip), on a weekly basis (say) 9.30 am to 12.00 noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays with (say) SiS at 5.30 pm to 7.00 pm, Monday to Thursdays.
