Submission from Ms Dari Taylor MP
Thank you for your letter of 29 June 2004 referencing
the Modernisation Committee's review of the House of Commons'
sitting hours.
I supported and, on the whole, have found the
new sitting hours to be satisfactory. I have, however, found it
hard on many occasions to combine debates in the Chamber with
meetings with individuals and organisations from my constituency
(formal and informal). Whilst I previously found it fairly straightforward
to participate in debates and do other things, I now find my schedule
to be increasingly tight.
My family home is in Durham and consequently
I go home from the House to an empty flat, which is frankly not
attractive. Whilst l would not want to go back to a 10.00 pm finish,
I would have thought that an 8.00 pm or 9.00 pm finish on Tuesday
and Wednesday would be perfectly acceptable.
