APPENDIX 2
Membership of the Speaker's Committee
The membership of the Speaker's Committee is determined
in accordance with the provisions of section 2 of the Political
Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000. It consists of nine
members: three ex officio, a member of the House of Commons
who is a Minister of the Crown with responsibilities in relation
to local government, appointed by the Prime Minister, and five
Members of the House of Commons who are not Ministers of the Crown,
appointed by the Speaker.
Ex officio members
The Rt Hon Michael Martin, MP, as Speaker of the
House of Commons, who is also the chairman of the Committee, by
virtue of section 2(2).
By virtue of the provisions of sections 2(2)(a)
and 2(6)
The Rt Hon Alan Beith MP, as Chairman of the Constitutional
Affairs Committee.
By virtue of the provisions of section2(2)(b)
The Rt Hon the Lord Falconer of Thoroton, as Lord
Chancellor.[4]
