Select Committee on Transport Written Evidence

APPENDIX 3

EAST OF ENGLAND PAGER ISSUES 28 MARCH 2005

    —    North Kent, Medway—team members using personal mobile phones, originally requested four x Ch O pagers, then not sure coverage would be sufficient, suggested trial PageOne but wants to trial whole team, not just one pager. Olan to provide PageOne trial pagers, have to request from Customer service, extremely difficult to contact PageOne.

    —    Hull, Cleethorpes—Vodafone Premier Pagers, poor coverage, using mobiles to back up pagers. SO has trialed a Vodafone Flex pager—better. Plan to clarify numbers with problems, check if any unused Vodafone pagers are Flex to run proper trial with Flex. Could consider Vodafone MDS option to mix half Premier half Flex. Also CH O used to be OK on seafront.

    —    Clacton, all teams—short of several pagers as not on original inventory return, plus are in addition to current declared team levels. Aim to provide them from the unused Vodafone pagers already within MCA—require Equipment Proposal form.

    —    South Downs, Birling Gap/Seaford—3 team members with coverage problems. Offered mobile phones, SM said may not be necessary. Due to get update on current status.

    —    Ipswich, SM—needs all 3 group nos. on his pager, have to require update from Vodafone.

    —    Wight, Bembridge/Ryde—few coverage issues for 3 team members. Due to get update on current status.

    —    East Sussex, Bexhill—coverage issues reported for 2 team members. No further discussion had yet.

    —    Whitby, Redcar—team requires one more spare pager to be ordered.

    —    Bradwell and Southend, West Mersea—screen crazed and blackened, not aware of any physical damage, suggested it may be due to pressure when seated because of size of pager.

    —    North Norfolk, Mundesley—possible issue with displayed message in intrinsically safe pager. SM is happy to deal with this when time.

    —    Lincolnshire, Mabelthorpe—request to move Ch O repeater from Lowestoft to Mablethorpe. Do not know if this has happened.
