Select Committee on Trade and Industry Written Evidence

ADDENDUM

TEXT APPROVED BY BLRA COUNCIL 10 DECEMBER 1997

Although the Association expects that the adoption of codes by companies in line with the Framework Code will provide an adequate procedure for the resolution of differences, it is nevertheless acknowledged that in individual cases, lessees may feel that a company has not properly followed the procedures set out in its code.

In such circumstances, and provided that the tenant/lessee has not referred his complaint to an independent adjudicator, it will be open to him or his representative to send the Association a brief description of the circumstances with an explanation why the lessee believes the code has not been properly followed. The Association will pass on this information to the company concerned and use its good offices to ensure, as far as possible, that there are no misunderstandings, or personality issues, that are standing in the way of a more fruitful dialogue between the company and the lessee or his representative.

The Association will not in any circumstances adjudicate between the company and the lessee and will not make any comment on the conduct or position or either party.
