2.1 The UKRC was launched in September 2004
and is based in Bradford West Yorkshire. It operates from a dedicated
refurbished centre. The Centre is located within the Department

of Cambridge work in partnership with the UKRC to deliver its
objectives, its representatives being experienced senior women
scientists, technologists and gender equality experts.
2.3 In addition to the Bradford location,
the UKRC has new satellites developing in Wales and Scotland,
and has secured office space in London. Delivery arms to the centre
include three regional hubs in Yorkshire and Humberside, the South
East and Wales with a further nine organisations nationally subcontracted
to deliver the Government strategy on behalf of the UKRC, which
will expand over the coming months.
2.4 Working with the nine core objectives outlined
in the Government's strategy, the mission of the UKRC is to establish
a dynamic national centre that provides accessible, high quality
information and advisory services to industry, academia, professional
institutes, education and Research Councils within the Science,
Engineering and Technology (SET) and built environment professions,
whilst supporting women entering and progressing in SET careers.
