Select Committee on Treasury Written Evidence

Memorandum submitted by Yorkshire Forward

  Thank you for the invitation to submit evidence to the Treasury Select Committee inquiry into Regional Productivity. Raising regional productivity both in absolute and relative terms is a key issue within the Yorkshire & Humber region, and is a subject to which the region has already devoted considerable attention.

  We believe the extensive work the Region has undertaken in relation to three previous pieces of work is also pertinent to the Treasury Select Committee:

    —  The Yorkshire and Humber Regional Emphasis Document—submitted to the Treasury in December 2003 as a joint piece of work by the Government Office for Yorkshire and Humber (GOYH), Yorkshire Forward and the Yorkshire and Humber Assembly; (not printed);

    —  More detailed evidence supporting the Region's Regional Emphasis Document, previously submitted by Yorkshire Forward, GOYH and the Yorkshire and Humber Assembly to the Government's PSA 2 Target Working Group led by ODPM; (not printed);

    —  Evidence submitted jointly by Yorkshire Forward and the Yorkshire and Humber Assembly in 2003 to the ODPM Select Committee Inquiry into Reducing Regional Disparities in Prosperity. (not printed).

  We formally request that each of these documents (attached) is considered by the Select Committee, and that the specific ownership of each document is noted. We would also stress that we will be happy to give oral evidence to the Select Committee Inquiry if invited to do so.

  Please contact Yorkshire Forward if you have questions that arise in relation to this submission.

  I wish you well with the Select Committee's Inquiry and trust that you will find this a constructive and positive contribution.
