Andrew Hunter MP has joined the Democratic Unionist Party.

Resignation

Rt Hon David Blunkett MP has resigned as Home Secretary.

Government Reshuffle

Rt Hon Charles Clarke MP has been appointed Home Secretary. Rt Hon Ruth Kelly MP has been appointed Secretary of State for Education and Skills. Mr David Miliband MP has been appointed Minister of State in the Cabinet Office. Mr Stephen Twigg has been appointed Minister of State in the Department for Education and Skills. Mr Derek Twigg has been appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department for Education and Skills. Mr James Purnell has been appointed Assistant Government Whip.

Private Members' Bill Fridays

The Leader of the House has announced that the following Fridays have been allocated for the consideration of Private Members' Bills in 2005 - 4 & 25 February, 4 & 18 March, 8, 15 & 22 April, 13 & 20 May, 17 & 24 June, 1 July and 14 October.

Christmas recess

The House will rise on Tuesday 21 December 2004 and return on Monday 10 January 2005

Constituency week

The House will rise on Thursday 10 February 2005 and return on Monday 21 February 2005

Easter recess

The House will rise on Thursday 24 March 2005 and return on Monday 4 April 2005

Whitsun recess

The House will rise on Thursday 26 May 2005 and return on Monday 6 June 2005

Summer recess

The House will rise on 28 July 2005 and return on Monday 10 October 2005

House of Lords recess dates will be the same as the House of Commons
