To

Make provision about dynamic demand appliances.                                                         

Be it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and

consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present

Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

Dynamic demand appliances

(1)   

The Sustainable Energy Act 2003 (c. 30) is amended as follows.

(2)   

After section 7 (use of certain money held by Gas and Electricity Markets

Authority), insert—

“7A     

Dynamic demand appliances

(1)   

Before the end of 2007, the Secretary of State must—

(a)   

establish a dynamic demand appliances standard for electrical

appliances;

(b)   

provide for electrical appliances meeting the standard under

paragraph (a) to be certified; and

(c)   

establish a dynamic demand incentive mechanism, whereby

manufacturers may benefit financially for each dynamic

demand electrical appliance certified under paragraph (b) and

connected to the UK electricity grid.

(2)   

In this section, “dynamic demand appliances” means those electrical

appliances that have the ability to adjust their electricity consumption

or output according to instantaneous power imbalances on the national

electricity grid.”

Short title, extent and commencement

(1)   

This Act may be cited as the Dynamic Demand Appliances Act 2006.

(2)   

This Act extends to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

(3)   

This Act comes into force on the day on which it is passed.
