St George’s Day Bill

Bill

To

designate St George’s Day as an annual public holiday in England; and for

connected purposes. 

Be it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and

consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present

Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1       

Amendment of the Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971

(1)   

The Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971 (c. 80) is amended as follows.

(2)   

In Schedule 1, after paragraph 1, there is inserted—

“1A        

The following is to be a bank holiday in England (but not in

Wales):—

23rd April (St George’s Day) if it be not a Saturday or Sunday or, if it

be a Saturday, 22nd April, or, if it be a Sunday, 24th April.”

Expenses

There shall be paid out of money provided by Parliament any increase attributable to

this Act in the sums payable out of money so provided under any other enactment.

Short Title

This Act may be cited as the St George’s Day Act 2006.
