from receiving religious education given in the school in accordance with

 

the school’s basic curriculum,

 

(b)    

from attendance at religious worship at the school, or

 

(c)    

both from receiving such education and from such attendance,

 

    

if either of the conditions in subsection (1A) is satisfied.

 

(1A)    

The conditions are—

 

(a)    

that the parent of the pupil has so requested and the request has not been

 

withdrawn, or

 

(b)    

that the pupil so requests and the local education authority is satisfied that

 

he is competent to make such a request.”’.
