Income Tax Returns

Mr. Neil Turner: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what percentage of 65 to 74-year-olds are recorded as having a long-term limiting illness in (a) Inner London local authorities, (b) Outer London local authorities, (c) English metropolitan authorities outside London, (d) Wigan metropolitan borough council area, (e) Salford city council area, (f) Knowsley metropolitan borough council area, (g) South Tyneside council area, (h) Leeds city council area and (i) Wolverhampton city council area. We have interpreted English metropolitan authorities outside London" to mean the metropolitan counties of Tyne and Wear, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and West Midlands

The table below shows the percentage of people aged between 65 and 74 in each of the requested geographies who were recorded as suffering from a limiting long-term illness on Census day (29 April 2001). The data have been taken from table S016 on the CD accompaniment to the Census 2001 National Report for England and Wales part 1" which is available in the House of Commons Library.
