coastal road between Ballyhalbent and Portavogie; and if he will make a statement. [74728]
David Cairns:
The chief executive of Roads Service (Dr. Malcolm McKibbin) has been asked to write to the hon. Lady in response to this question.
Letter from Dr. Malcolm McKibbin, dated 31 May 2006:
You recently asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland a Parliamentary Question regarding what plans he has to improve the coastal road between Ballyhalbert and Portavogie; and if he will make a statement.
As this issue falls within my responsibility as Chief Executive of Roads Service, I have been asked to reply.
As you will be aware, the coastal road between Ballyhalbert and Portavogie which forms part of the A2 runs along the east coast of the Ards Peninsula to Portaferry for a distance of approximately 35Km. The road is inspected regularly in
5 Jun 2006 : Column 400W
accordance with Roads Services policy governing the inspection and repair of roads and is considered to be in a generally good condition.
You may also be aware that 6 years ago the portion to which you refer was resurfaced and had new drainage installed. Accordingly, I can advise you that there are no proposals at present to carry out any improvement works on this portion of road.
