Sexual Offences

Mrs. James: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many people were convicted of sex offences in (a) 2004 and (b) 2005, broken down by offence; and if he will make a statement. [77460]

Mr. Coaker: Information held by the Office for Criminal Justice Reform on the number of defendants found guilty of sex offences in 2004 are provided in the following table. The Sexual Offences Act 2003, which covers a large proportion of the offences listed in the table only came into force from 1 May 2004. Figures for 2005 will be published in autumn 2006.
