Immigration (Communications)

Mr. Dismore: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many (a) (i) letters and (ii) emails were sent and (b) telephone calls were made by each hon. Member and their staff to (A) the Immigration and Nationality Directorate and (B) the Minister for Immigration in the 12 months to 31 October 2006, ranked in descending order of total number of representations made; how many received a substantive reply in each case; and if he will make a statement. Immigration (Departmental Employees)

Mr. Hayes: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many illegal immigrants have been discovered to be employed by his Department in each year since 2001; in what capacities they were employed; how many were discovered as part of a criminal investigation; what the nature was of the charges brought against them; how many claimed asylum; how many were deported; how many remain in the country; from which countries they originated; and if he will make a statement. Mr. Byrne: The Home Office currently employs over 70,000 people.

Information is not held centrally on the numbers of illegal immigrants discovered to be employed by the Home Department since 2001 and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.

Immigration (Detainees)

Mr. Clegg: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many non-criminal prisoners are currently detained under the Immigration Act 1971, broken down by the number of weeks they have been detained following the completion of their sentence. [91073]

Mr. Benyon: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will take into account the actions of the person who exposed the actions of James Dawute when considering the resolution of her immigration or asylum status. [98387]

Mr. Byrne: All asylum and human rights applications are considered by the Home Office on their individual merits, in accordance with our obligations under the 1951 UN Refugee Convention and the European Convention on Human Rights and against the background of the latest available objective country of origin information. Any other application for leave to enter or remain in the United Kingdom will be considered in accordance with the appropriate section of the Immigration Rules.

Mr. Vara: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department which police forces have signed memoranda of understanding with the Immigration Service agreeing to hold detainees of the Immigration Service when needed; and how many Immigration Service detainees were held in police cells in each police force in each year since 1997. Juvenile Offenders

(2) what assessment he has made of the extent to which the sentencing guidelines on first time juvenile offenders convicted of (a) affray and (b) actual bodily harm provide sufficient discretion for judges. [97350]

Leave to Remain
