Mr. Kemp: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what national police responsibilities are tasked to Northumbria constabulary. [99831]

Mr. McNulty: The Independent Police Complaints Commission is responsible for the management of the police complaints system.

Andrew Rosindell: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what the ratio of regular police officers to residents is in each London borough. [99536]
Mr. McNulty: Statistics of police officer strength per 100,000 resident population by London borough as at 31 March 2006 are given in the following table.

Tim Farron: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department when compensation will be paid to the Cumbrian police authority to cover the costs of the aborted merger plans. [97795]

Mr. Blunt: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what expenses will be paid to prisoners discharged by a court when they have to return to the prison where they had been held to reclaim their property. [98890]
Mr. Sutcliffe [holding answer 6 November 2006]: Where a prisoner's property does not accompany them to court, the prison will arrange for it to be sent to them in the event of their discharge.
Mr. Garnier: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has decided how many adult offenders will be released early to ease prison overcrowding; and how he plans to stop the prison estate exceeding its total operational capacity before the planned 8,000 new places become available. Mr. Clegg: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many (a) prisoner on prisoner and (b) prisoner on officer assaults were recorded in each of the last 10 years, broken down by prison establishment. [93814]

Mr. Clegg: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many claims for compensation have been received from foreign national prisoners who were detained awaiting deportation after serving their sentence. [94921]
John Reid: The Treasury Solicitors Department is responsible for dealing with such claims on behalf of the Department.
I understand that current provisional management information shows that there are 18 ongoing claims
which have been received since the start of the current financial year. No conclusions can be drawn at this stage about the outcome of these cases although we will seek to contest all claims robustly.
Lynne Featherstone: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many escapes from prison occurred in each police district in each year since 2000. [95290]
