Select Committee on Administration First Special Report

Special Report: Publication of summary records of discussion and committee papers

1. At our meeting on 11 October, we considered how our discussions and conclusions might be made available to Members and to a wider audience. The formal record of our business—the Minutes of Proceedings—sets out our decisions, but does not show the full range of our discussions or the considerations that we bear in mind when reaching our decisions. We believe that in the context of our role—to convey Members' views to the House of Commons Administration—it is important for us to ensure that Members can see the work that we are doing on their behalf.

2. Accordingly, we have decided to report to the House summary records of our discussions after each meeting and to publish them on our website.[1] We hope that these will be of use to the House, to Members and to all others interested in our work. We intend to publish a Special Report at the end of each Parliamentary Session covering a more permanent version of these documents to supplement the formal Minutes of Proceedings.

3. In addition, we have decided for similar reasons to report to the House and publish on our website documents that we receive from the House Administration and others, where reasons of confidentiality do not prevent us from doing so.
