Memorandum by the Transport & General
Workers Union Parliamentary Branch
Parliament and parliamentarians employ a large
number of people. We believe that Parliament should provide a
good level of refreshments for those who work here and, like other
large employers, this should involve a reasonable subsidy, not
least for those who are low paid.
The Committee says that it does not intend to
reverse the reductions in subsidy and we would urge the Committee
to make no further cuts in the subsidies.
We would also appreciate the opportunity to
share our experiences and concerns with the Catering Committee
and to meet the Chairman on a quarterly basis, as previously agreed
with the former Chairman, Dennis Turner MP.
