Select Committee on Foreign Affairs Written Evidence

13. CHAGOS ISLANDS:
Letter to the Parliamentary Relations and Devolution Team, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, from the Clerk of the Committee, 14 November 2005

The Committee has asked me to request an update on the Government's policy towards and treatment of the Chagos Islanders. In particular, the Committee wishes to know whether the Government has any plans to review its treatment of the Islanders since they were required to leave the archipelago in 1967, and whether the Government has any new proposals to deal with the Islanders' grievances.

I would be grateful to receive this not later than 6 December.

Steve Priestley

Clerk of the Committee
