Thank you for your letter of 20 October, inviting
Lord Birt to give evidence to the Committee on strategic thinking
and planning in Government.
The Prime Minister has given the matter serious consideration.
He is aware that you have also asked for Stephen Aldridge to give
evidence and feels that Stephen, as the Acting Director of the
Strategy Unit, is best placed to answer any questions which the
Committee may have on strategic thinking and planning in Government.
Separately, you provided me with a couple of dates for Stephen
to consider for his evidence session. He would like to go with
Thursday 15 December.
