Select Committee on Treasury Minutes of Evidence

Examination of Witnesses (Questions 60-61)

MS ANGELA KNIGHT, MR IAN MULLEN, MR MICHAEL COOGAN, MS SHEILA NICOLL AND MR STEPHEN SKLAROFF

14 DECEMBER 2005

Q60  Chairman: Yes, there is a view it is a bit laid-back.

Mr Mullen: These two are completely divorced. I certainly did not have a laid-back approach wit regard to payments. What I said was that we need to take this in a measured way.

Q61  Chairman: In a number of your submissions you mentioned in the Lamfalussy Level 3 committees that there was a need to resolve political issues earlier, rather than leaving them to be discussed at that level. Can you give examples of a controversial political decision left to Level 3? Can you write to us on that? You were very clear and it would be helpful to us for our report to identify those. Can you write to us on that?[3]

Ms Knight: That is fine. There is a long list.

Chairman: Thank you very much for your evidence; it was very helpful. We have another two sessions coming after this.
